The award winning original Zacuto EVF
The Zacuto EVF is a 3.2” high resolution monitor that is used in conjunction with all the Z-Finder models. This product has been upgraded. Technology has came along way and we have upgraded to making Micro-OLED EVF's.
Zacuto, the world leader in electronic viewfinder technology has an EVF for every shooter. We have our Gratical Eye SDI EVF, and Kameleon Pro HDMI EVF and SDI EVF and then our budget EVF- the ACT EVF. The ACT EVF is included for free in all our ACT Recoil rigs.

A Zacuto electronic viewfinder is the perfect accessory for a Next Generation Recoil Rig. Recoil rigs place the balance point of your rig, camera and lens directly over your shoulder for comfort and most importantly, perfect balance. This pushes focus and monitoring further forward, creating a lighter and shorter rig. Now you can shoot all day without getting fatigued. An EVF is ideal for use with any Recoil Rig. Positioned offset to the camera in a shoulder rig, or attached to a tripod, dolly, or crane, an electronic viewfinder will enhance the stability of any set up and offers better resolution and focus ability.
EVF Snap (DISCONTINUED)- The EVF snap is our standard electronic viewfinder that has the Zacuto Z-Finder Frame built into the unit. The Z-Finder Pro or Jr. snaps on and off the monitor. Therefore, you can use the monitor as a small onboard monitor or as an electronic viewfinder by itself.
EVF Flip (DISCONTINUED) - The EVF Flip has a Z-Finder frame built into the unit that can be flipped open to 180 degrees. You can also pop off the Z-Finder and use the electronic viewfinder as a monitor similar to the EVF Snap. You can use the Z-Finder Pro or Jr. on this model as well. This is essential when working handheld with a producer or director so you can show him the shot without having to have him get his eye in the viewfinder. You just flip up and he can see the shot.
Z-Finder EVF (DISCONTINUED) - This is a complete electronic viewfinder. It includes the EVF Snap model and an optical viewfinder, which will snap onto the frame on the monitor. The optical viewfinder contains high quality 2.5x optics with anti-fog shields. The anti-fog is extremely important for reducing fog. It does not have a diopter but will include the Zacuto Z-Finder Extender Frames. The Extender Frames will get the focus close but might not be exact as you can’t dial it in with a diopter, as you can with our Z-Finder Pro models.
Z-Finder EVF Pro (DISCONTINUED)– This is a complete electronic viewfinder with a diopter. It includes the EVF Flip model and an optical viewfinder, which will snap onto the frame on the monitor and can flip up 180 degrees. The optical viewfinder contains high quality 2.5x optics with anti-fog shields and a diopter. The anti-fog is extremely important for reducing fog. It will also include extender frames. The Z-Finder Extender Frames allow you to further adjust the focal point of the Z-Finder by semi-permanently stacking the frames via a snap fit on to the skirt of the Z-Finder until the LCD screen is in focus for you. If you want to be able to use your Z-Finder on your camera LCD screen, you will need to purchase the gorilla plate and frame separately. It is not included in this kit. All electronic viewfinders include a standard hotshoe EVF mount, HDMI cable, rechargeable battery, battery charger, lens cloth and protection case. Additional mounts will be available for purchase; the mount needed will depend on your shooting needs.
Our electronic viewfinder has the ability to auto scale, recall a built in camera preset, or create and recall a user-specific scaling preset. The first image is an example of what you would see from the video signal with a Canon 5D with monitors and electronic viewfinders without the auto scaling feature. The second image is the electronic viewfinder's auto scaling feature, in which the image is un-squeezed, if necessary and retains the pillar box crop. The third image is a camera specific preset that expands the image and utilizes the entire width and resolution of the display screen. Included are presets for all common DSLR cameras on the market. The fourth image shows the CREATE USER PRESET interface where users can scale and place the red (active video) line to show what they want to appear on the EVF screen. The green line is placed around the active 16x9 video signal so the EVF knows precisely where to place the frame lines in relation to the scaled video. The EVF can save and recall up to eight unique user presets.
Other EVF features include:
Audio/Video Loop Through Brightness & Contrast Adjustments- Changes can be saved on power down and return on power up. Settings can also be saved and recalled as presets.
False Color Monochrome
Audio Meter Indicator- Can be positioned in any 4 corners.
Battery Level Indicator- You can choose to have the battery level icon on or off. If you choose to have the battery level icon off, the indicator will appear automatically when the battery power reaches 10% remaining. The indicator can be positioned in any four corners.
USB Firmware Updatable - You have the ability to update your EVF firmware via a USB port. USB port is located on the bottom of the unit
Live Menu Preview - While changing menu items, you will see a live preview of the changes.
HDMI Standard Ports - 2 Standard HDMI ports are located on the right side of the EVF for loop through to another monitor or device Zacuto's electronic viewfinder 3.2” monitor has higher resolution than DSLR LCD screens. These screens have a resolution of 640×480 on a 3:2 aspect ratio screen. Therefore, you only effectively see the resolution at 640×360 in 16×9. Our electronic viewfinder resolution is a true 800×480 making the resolution 56% greater than the on-board DSLR camera screens. The Zacuto EVF also has a tighter dot pitch which also improves the quality, allowing you see a much tighter pixel pattern. This electronic viewfinder also has auto-scaling and uses the entire screen therefore you see no pillar boxing.
Vincent Laforet: "A high quality, reliable EVF has been the #1 tool missing in my HDDSLR Toolkit since the cameras came out. Zacuto's EVF is feature packed and allows me to operate these cameras as I would with traditional cameras for the first time - and that's a really great thing."
Daniel Chung: "I am really impressed with the EVF build and screen quality, it's really well thought out. The speed in which the Zacuto EVF handles the resolution switch when you hit record on the 5DmkII is so impressive. Other monitors I've used take an age to do that. I'm really not quite sure how I lived without an EVF like this on my 5DmkII."
Jared Abrams: "The Zacuto Electronic Viewfinder gives the DP the ability to get inside the frame. Finally, we have a solution to the ergonomic problem inherent with DSLR cameras. Now we can see."
Philip Bloom: "Simply essential for so many cameras, from my T2i to my F3. This EVF makes shooting, with any camera, a joy. Once you use it there is no way you will take it off!"
JJ Kim: “I am satisfied in every little (and BIG) feature that Zacuto has put into this light, rugged & powerful device for filmmaking with DSLR’s and Video cameras."
Vu Bui: "The Zacuto EVF has breathed new life into the versatility of DSLR filmmaking. It takes all the features you want in an EVF as a filmmaker, and puts it in a drop-proof package that looks as cool as it is useful."
Simon Sommerfeld: "Having operated with the Canon 5D MKII for the last two years, I can testify that the new Zacuto Z-Finder EVF offers a giant leap forward in operator comfort and monitoring versatility, and the HDMI passthrough is extremely helpful. As a bonus, the Z-Finder EVF also works on the RED One, running from the camera HDMI out."
