BlackMagic Pocket Camera Z-Finder

Earlier this year, BlackMagic introduced their Pocket Cinema Camera. This pocket sized camera with Super 16 digital sized sensor is packed with features! Barely had the camera hit the market before requests for a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera Z-Finder started pouring in to Zacuto. We listened! Our standard DSLR Z-Finders didn’t fit perfectly, so we went back to the drawing board and created a new Z-Finder specifically designed to suit the shape and size of the Blackmagic Pocket Camera and its LCD.

We spent time to find ways to not only increase its potential over our competitors but do it at a less expensive price point. This new super lightweight design won’t weigh you or your camera down! The BlackMagic Pocket Camera Z-Finder comes with a Zacuto adhesive frame for the BMPCC’s 3.5” LCD screen. The Zacuto Z-Finder pops on and off the frame for quick shooting. When not in use, the Z-Finder can hang around your neck with the included lanyard so it is always close by.

Watch as Steve and Jens discuss the features of the new BlackMagic Pocket Camera Z-Finder, including an innovative new eyesight correction system!

This Z-Finder model includes a newly designed sun mask to reduce the possibility of damage to your camera LCD screen. Zacuto has completely redesigned its optics system to include three glass diopters that can be used to alter the amount of optical correction needed depending on your eyesight. This state-of-the-art eyesight correction technology slides in front of the lens of your Z-Finder making it custom to your vision. The BMPCC Z-Finder includes 4 diopters, 0, +1, +2, and +3 so you can correct it to your vision, right out of the box. You’ll be able to purchase an additional -1, and/or +4 diopter if needed.

The most important part of all is our newly improved anti-fog production formula that is coated on all of our new diopters. The 0 diopter gives you fog protection with no optical correction.  It doesn’t matter how good your optical viewfinder is, if it fogs, it’s game over. It’s the single most important factor in making a viewfinder purchasing decision. You can take our patent pending fog protection formula from an air conditioned interior to the most humid exterior and it’s guaranteed not to fog. These fog filters diopters are really truly amazing!

The Zacuto Point’n’Shoot Pro is the perfect companion to the BlackMagic Pocket Camera Z-Finder. This sturdy little handle provides balance and support and has a built in quick release! Stay tuned for a BMPCC specific version coming soon. In the mean time, check out some photos in the gallery at the bottom of the page.

Very nice! Any chance this would fit my Canon M

We recommend our 3″ adhesive frame with our standard Z-Finder for the Canon M.

Why are you charging my credit card weeks before the anticipated shipping date? All the major suppliers charge upon shipment. What gives?

I know it can be frustrating but we simply don’t have the manpower to hunt everyone down for payment when it comes time to ship. We tried that once and it was a mess! And, holding your credit card number for weeks can leave you open to CC issues. While it’s flattering to hear you consider us a major supplier, we’re still a small business and taking this route makes it easier for us to order supplies and keep everything organized. Thank you for understanding!

I am sorry to hear that Zacuto has to burden a customer with payment for which nothing in return has been received.

In return you’ve received a guaranteed spot in line when the Z-Finders are released (we ship in the order that orders are received) and a $10 discount. And, of course you’ve actually purchased the Z-Finder!

When shall I expect my Zacuto Z-Finder for the BMCPC?

We hope to start shipping around Feb 1st.

AS for the credit card issue I understand both points very clearly. Maybe you could add people to a waiting list then notify hem when it is available and give them a week to pay then ship or delete the order. Happy New year!

Will this product work with a Zacuto EVF screen when I’m ready to upgrade?

  11. Rachel Kenton on February 24th, 2014 9:38 am
    Rachel Mahrle

The EVF is compatible with our DSLR Z-Finder Pro and Jr. It can also be used with the C100 Z-Finder in a pinch though the magnification on that is not quite right. Unfortunately, you can’t use the Blackmagic Pocket Camera Z-Finder with our EVF. This is for the same reasons we needed to make a special Z-Finder for the BMPCC in the first place – the LCD screen is a different shape and size than on a DSLR and therefore our EVF.

HI Ed – we’re on track to start shipping at the end of this week! We’re really excited to get these out to everyone. When yours will ship depends on where you are in line. Shoot our sales dept an email or call next week and we should have a better idea of how fast these will be getting out the door.

Just received my new Z finder for my Black Magic Pocket camera. Can’t wait to try it tomorrow when the adhesive should be cured. Love the feel of it. Since I have your original Z finder for my Canon cameras, I knew it would be worth it to wait for this one. I pre-ordered it in December and just received it today 3/25. Will be bringing it to NAB for sure. Only problem that I had was switching the dioptics. I put in a +3 and it looks like it’s going to be perfect, but I really wasn’t clear on taking out the old Sun Mask & the number 1 diopter and replacing it with the #3. I got it to work, but loosening the 3 screws to line up the notches was a little tricky. Watched the tutorial, but that didn’t really show you how to do it. Maybe it’s just me. In any case, it looks and feels great.

    HI Eric,

Thanks for letting us know you has some trouble working with the diopters. I’ll pass that info along and we’ll look at our instructions to see where we can make things clearer.

  16. eric cosh on March 25th, 2014 1:50 pm

Thanks Rachael. It’s just not too clear about the setting of the 3 screws. Everything else is perfect.

Hallo, Is ZFinder optimal for Canon EOS M3? Thank You from Slovakia..

  20. Rachel Kenton on April 25th, 2016 9:45 am
    Rachel Mahrle

Yes, it is. But you’ll want to use an adhesive frame instead of the metal system with such a small camera. This is the one you’ll want in addition to the Z-Finder.
