Sony F5 Sneak PeekIn October 2012, Sony revealed two new CineAlta™ 4K cameras, Sony PMW-F55 and PMW-F5! In a press release released by Sony, Rob Willox, Director of Marketing for large image sensor cameras at Sony Electronics stated, “They fill a critical gap in large-sensor acquisition between Sony’s PMW-F3 camcorder and F65 digital motion picture camera, and give content creators new levels of flexibility and creative options for acquisition and production in HD, 2K, 4K and beyond.”

Sony F5 & Sony F55 Features

Both of these cameras feature a Super 35mm sized 4K sensor with 8.9 million effective pixels, 2 XLR inputs, both professional and still lens mounts, a new camera menu interface, 14 stops of latitude, in camera recording to Sony’s new SxS Pro+ memory cards in a variety of codecs and the ability to record 4K/2K RAW to the new modular Sony AXS-R5 recorder. Sony will also be releasing a free upgrade that will allow the cameras to shoot up to 120fps in 2k.

Sony F5 & Sony F55 Accessories

Sony didn’t stop at just the cameras; they have also released the AXS-R5 Recorder, a new Olivine battery, 3 viewing options including the DVF-EL100 viewfinder, DVF-L350 viewfinder and the DVF-L700 viewfinder. They also released a set of cost-effective PL mount prime lenses. The new lens series includes focal lengths of 20, 25, 35, 50, 85 and 135 mm. Sony F5 & Sony F55 Rig

The Sony F5 is shown on our Sony F5/F55 Recoil Rig. The Recoil Rig positions the camera so it is sitting directly on your shoulder, making the camera compact, balanced and lighter.     Hello all, just one thing to note. I meant to say that the PMW-F55 has a global shutter, not a rotary one. My mis-speak! The PMW-F5 has a rolling shutter.
